Who we are
Youth Engagement and Community Outreach (YECO Canada) is a bilingual, multicultural youth organization that addresses social issues affecting racialized youth in low-income areas. Our mission is to create a safer, more inclusive community for young people, enhancing their overall well-being through a holistic approach.
Founded in 2021 as a WhatsApp group by youths from marginalized communities in Ottawa and Gatineau, YECO Canada emerged from the need to support a friend who lost a relative to gun violence. The group quickly expanded to 20 members, including ten individuals personally impacted by gun-related tragedies. Together, the youth identified mental health, racism, safety, and unemployment as shared concerns, shaping YECO Canada’s purpose.

OUR APPROACH INTEGRATES THE FIVE ESSENTIALS FOR WELLNESS
1. Career Well-Being
2. Social Well-Being
YECO Canada fosters strong relationships and a sense of belonging among youth. Our programs encourage social interaction and building supportive networks, ensuring that every young person feels connected and valued.
3. Financial Well-Being
We offer financial literacy workshops and resources to help youth manage their economic lives effectively. By equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for financial stability, we contribute to their overall sense of security and independence.
4. Physical Well-Being
Our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment promotes the physical well-being of our members. We provide resources and initiatives that support good health and energy, enabling youth to thrive in all areas of their lives.
5. Community Well-Being
YECO Canada engages with local communities through meaningful partnerships, initiatives, and contributions. We promote a strong sense of community engagement, encouraging youth to participate in and contribute to the well-being of their neighborhoods.
Over the past three years, YECO Canada has engaged over 100 youth in Ottawa and Gatineau from low-income neighborhoods. Our commitment to encouraging positive change contributes significantly to young people’s well-being.
